Detoxing Explained…

“What exactly is detoxing?”  It’s a great question; especially given the fact that detoxification is a universal term for ridding a body of any kind of toxic build-up, although the uninitiated would typically associate the word “detox” with drugs or alcohol – not fasting!

Ridding the body of toxic build-up through years of consuming chemically altered foods and water; and through absorbing heavy metals through the air, is not unlike a drug withdrawal.  Like any substance, the human body becomes accustomed to consuming toxic foods over a period of time, until eventually it becomes overburdened, and sends signs (in the form of symptoms) that it’s had enough.

To be honest – the more toxic a body, the more difficult (but obviously necessary), it is to undertake a complete detox and cleanse.   Toxic residue remains in the tissues and cells, intestines, blood, bones, and organs.  When these toxins are eliminated, it can be uncomfortable and arduous.  A healthy body can eliminate most toxins efficiently, but modern life’s abundance of stress, a “work-hard, play-hard” mentality, polluted, over-populated cities, and fast, convenient, chemically ridden foods can really challenge the efficiency of the body’s eliminatory functions.

When the body cannot process and eliminate toxins, it stores them to protect the bloodstream from becoming contaminated.  These substances can accumulate in the body for an entire lifetime, unless a deliberate attempt is made to clean them out.  If no attempt is made at cleansing and fasting, the toxins can then cause the degeneration of blood, tissues, and cells, causing all sorts of misery later on in life.

Most people are unaware how toxic their environment is, however our bodies are always sending us signs that it needs cleaning.  We just have to tune in and listen!

Signs the body could be overloaded with toxins include, but are not limited to:

  • Feelings of being bloated
  • Constipation
  • Frequent gas
  • Difficulty digesting food
  • Sudden sensitivity to foods one is used to eating
  • IBS
  • Allergies
  • Fatigue
  • Aching joints
  • Bad breath
  • Depression
  • Mood swings
  • Intestinal parasite infestation
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Disrupted sleep patterns
  • Acne, Psoriasis
  • Weight gain
  • Migraines
  • Frequent colds and flu
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Candida
  • Type-2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure

If you are suffering from any of the above symptoms, a detox and cleanse program should be your first port of call…not the doctor!   The people who do decide to detox before seeing their doctor are always delighted and surprised at just how quickly the body can heal itself.  This is not a secret – we have known this for thousands of years, however modern medicine has taken over as our primary healing mechanism, causing us to lose this intrinsic knowledge and power within ourselves.

Detoxing is the best gift we can give our bodies, and each one of us owes it to ourselves to periodically take time out to rest, rejuvenate, and heal.   For more information on detoxing, cleanse, and weight-loss, please visit:
